About the Course

Microaggressions are subtle, often unintentional comments or behaviours that reflect underlying bias or discrimination. Though they may seem minor in isolation, they can have a profound impact on those targeted—eroding trust, causing harm, and contributing to a deep sense of exclusion over time.

This interactive workshop helps participants recognize common forms of microaggressions and understand their cumulative impact. Through real-life examples, reflection, and practice, we’ll explore what microaggressions are, how to respond when they happen, and how to shift everyday interactions to foster greater respect and inclusion. The session also introduces the concepts of micro-inclusions—small actions that help people feel seen and valued—and micro-tokenisms, which may appear inclusive on the surface but miss the mark.

It is recommended that those who take this course also take Building a Respectful Workplace.

Participants will:

  • Increase their understanding of what microaggressions are—and are not

  • Explore the cumulative impact of repeated microaggressions

  • Reflect on their own identities and blind spots

  • Learn strategies to respond when witnessing or experiencing a microaggression

  • Practice language to interrupt microaggressions with clarity and care

  • Learn the difference between micro-inclusions and micro-tokenisms
