Mediation Skills for Leaders
Leaders are often expected to step into conflict situations without clear guidance for how to facilitate difficult conversations effectively. Unlike outside mediators, leaders are rarely neutral observers. They are stakeholders in the relationships, team dynamics, workplace culture, and outcomes connected to the conflict itself. This highly interactive course helps participants build practical mediation skills for facilitating difficult conversations, supporting accountability, repairing working relationships, and helping others move through conflict more constructively.
This course recognizes that leaders are often expected to respond to conflict situations without formal mediation training or clear processes for facilitating difficult conversations constructively.
Unlike outside mediators, leaders are already part of the system affected by the conflict. They often have relationships, responsibilities, organizational pressures, performance concerns, and ongoing accountability connected to the people involved. Rather than striving for complete neutrality, this training explores how leaders can practice balanced fairness while supporting healthier communication, clearer understanding, accountability, and more constructive future interactions.
The training emphasizes practical preparation, curiosity, reflective listening, emotional awareness, and helping people move through conflict without simply avoiding it, escalating it, or relying entirely on formal disciplinary processes.

About This Course
Mediation Skills for Leaders is an interactive, skills-based course designed to help leaders facilitate difficult conversations and mediate conflict between others in workplace and organizational settings. The course builds on Coaching for Resolution by helping participants move from individual coaching conversations toward structured, face-to-face mediation discussions between people in conflict.
Participants explore practical mediation frameworks and processes for preparing parties, facilitating joint conversations, unpacking difficult events, clarifying intentions and impacts, exploring assumptions, and helping people move toward healthier and more constructive working relationships.
A central focus of the training is the unique reality that leaders are not neutral outsiders. Participants examine the challenges of facilitating conflict while also remaining connected to the people, relationships, team dynamics, policies, and outcomes involved. The course explores how leaders can balance fairness, accountability, support, organizational responsibilities, and ongoing workplace relationships while acting as third-party helpers.
Throughout the training, participants engage in demonstrations, discussion, reflection, role-play practice, and facilitated feedback designed to build practical confidence and hands-on mediation experience.
