About the Course
We have all been ‘bystanders’, witnessing situations of injustice unfolding before us. In our polarizing world these situations can range from interactions between strangers in public settings, to escalating conversations between friends or family members. They are situations that can leave us feeling like the proverbial ‘deer in the headlights’. This interactive course will build participants’ capacity to intervene by introducing and practicing a variety of techniques, including de-escalation skills, models for facilitating on-the-spot dialogue, intervention skills and more. This is a participatory weekend skills course that starts with participants’ own skills; it is designed to help people gain the tools and (most importantly) confidence to move from frozen bystander to engaged ally.
