About This Course
Applied Mediation Practice is an advanced, highly interactive skills-based course designed to help participants deepen, integrate, and apply the mediation concepts and frameworks introduced in Foundational Mediation Skills.
The course emphasizes experiential learning through intensive role-play practice, coaching, observation, reflection, and facilitated feedback. Participants engage in realistic mediation scenarios that explore emotionally charged conversations, misunderstandings, relationship strain, differing perspectives, recurring conflict patterns, and difficult communication dynamics.
Course Objectives
Participants will:
- Deepen and strengthen foundational mediation skills through applied practice
- Build greater confidence facilitating mediation conversations
- Practice managing emotionally charged dialogue and difficult mediation moments
- Strengthen active listening, reframing, summarizing, and reflective questioning skills
- Develop greater comfort facilitating conversations involving tension, misunderstanding, and defensiveness
- Explore how assumptions, intentions, impacts, and unmet needs shape conflict dynamics
- Practice helping parties move from positional arguments toward greater understanding
- Strengthen preparation, assessment, and intervention skills within mediation processes
- Build greater awareness of mediator presence, emotional regulation, and process management
- Develop practical skills through role-play practice, observation, coaching, and facilitated feedback
